José Martí Park After-School Program

Recognizing that education is a determining factor to a child’s future success, Amigos For Kids, in cooperation with the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department, Mater Academy East, and other cultural/arts related sponsors, in 2004, began administering an after-school program at José Martí Park in East Little Havana. This public/private partnership is designed to help inner city children, providing scholastic assistance, as well as allowing children to attend numerous sports, arts and enrichment activities. Enrollment began with 60 children and currently 100 children are enrolled.

Amigos For Kids® Blue Ribbon Campaign

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Amigos coordinates activities during that month through South Florida. Since April 2004, Amigos has spearheaded efforts in cooperation with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, the mayors of the City of Miami, Coral Gables and Miami-Dade County and other local community leaders and organizations to provide an informative series of events. Its purpose is to create awareness about child abuse through education and community involvement and promote positive parenting as it relates to the issues of child abuse. Printed materials are available for both parents and children in three different languages: English, Spanish and Creole.

Back to School Drive

Amigos provides book bags and school supplies to more than 1,500 children who would otherwise lack school supplies on their first day of school.

Amigos For Kids® Holiday Toy Drive

This unique and rewarding event, which began in 1991, makes the holidays brighter for hundreds of needy children every year. Our effort is designed to fulfill each child’s specific wishes from his/her very own wish list. Children submit wish lists, and gifts are purchased to fulfill at least two of their specific requests. Our toy drive is one of South Florida’s most celebrated holiday giving drives.
