In light of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Miami-based nonprofit, Amigos For Kids is working tirelessly to organize events, raise funds, and highlight the need for more protection.
The need for community-based effort
Amigos for Kids is working tirelessly for the prevention of child abuse and neglect, launching various programs that empower and uplift children, bring together families, and educate communities. Since April is National Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month, they’re working to create the optimal environment for healthy child development and work with communities and stakeholders to achieve that.
April 2022 is the third year in a row that Child Abuse Prevention Month takes place in the middle of COVID, which puts the children of the community at risk for child abuse and neglect. As COVID increases stress on parents and caregivers, including job insecurity, loss of income due, adapting childcare and schooling arrangements, and food insecurity, kids are likely to bear the brunt of this trauma.
How you can support Amigos for Kids
Child Abuse Awareness month has already kicked off with events such as Wear Blue Day to show solidarity and support. People were encouraged to post a photo or video on social media, tagging @AmigosForKids, and using the hashtag #WearBlueDay2022.
They’re also selling official “Amigos Socks” and #RockYourSocks to raise funds for abuse prevention. Patrons can make a tax-deductible donation to their programs.
Visit their website AmigosForKids.org or follow them on social media @AmigosForKids, reposting and sharing content through April. Their hashtags include #HelpFamiliesThrive, #AmigosBlueRibbon, and #CAPMonth.
